I take it back...
maybe I am a seamstress. Well, not a seamstress, but I did it! All by myself! This skirt has caused me so much stress - I just noticed that the word stress is in seamstress - there's a reason for that!
So after I got the elastic thread on Monday I couldn't get it to work in my sewing machine. That idea went out the window and so did the fabric that I had cut into a circle. I gave up on that and decided to figure out how to follow the pattern. I mean, how hard can it be? I am a college graduate, right? Well I worked on Tuesday so I didn't get anything done on it then either. But I did talk to a couple different people who were willing to help me, but today was the only day either one of them could. So I asked Marcie to come out after work. I went ahead and got new fabric and cut it following the pattern. By the time I had to leave to get the kids at school I had attached the cat applique and leash to the front. But I did break two needles in the machine doing it! So, I had to run to WalMart before I picked up the kids. We ended up running errands this afternoon so I didn't get to work on it until after dinner. Marcie called and wasn't feeling well so I told her to go to bed. Sounds like she might be getting the flu and as much as I wanted her help, I didn't want the flu! I hope you are feeling better soon friend!
At that point I had gotten to the zipper. For some reason I was really scared of that zipper. It turned out to be really easy. So then I moved onto the waist. I still don't think I got it exactly right, but it works. Actually I know I didn't get it right because the side that was supposed to be longer was on the wrong end so I had to fudge it a little. Last but not least was the hem. It's not perfect, but let me tell you, cheetah print fabric is very forgiving! All the imperfections are camoflouged, so as far as I can see it looks great. And I am done a day early! The real test will be actually trying it on Katie, but I made the waist closure velcro, so we can loosen or tighten it a little as needed. Here it is, my first (and last!) homemade piece of clothing:

VERY cute! See you did it!! I will place my order later...
Well done! It never ceases to amaze me how sewing instructions and a pattern can kick my a$$. I don't think I've eve completed a pattern without calling my mother at least 3 times!
It looks great. Take pictures of it on Katie! I bet she'll look adorable!
Someone that sews (as she dubbed herself) told me today that the elastic waist is really easy. Apparently I didn't need elastic thread because you sew the waistband larger first and then thread the elastic through it and it bunches up. Who knew? I still would have messed it up.
I am SOOO impressed - go girl! From someone who once cut two left legs out when trying to make a pair of pants (yes, it does make a difference), I am in awe of anyone who can sew clothing. Well done! :)
so so cute!!!!
