Little Surfer Boy
Okay, so he technically isn't a surfer, but his shirt has surfboards on it, so doesn't that count? As you can see, we spent some time at the beach today. It was a spontaneous trip (which I love!) and we couldn't have picked a more beautiful day to go. We only spent about an hour at the beach because we didn't want to get sunburned. So Derek and Kyle walked up and down the beach collecting shells and getting their toes wet while I took a little nap on the sand. It was nice. Here he is showing off one of his shells:
About this time I am guessing you are wondering where Katie is...we'll get to that in a minute. This was Kyle's special day with Mommy and Daddy. So after the beach we headed over to Moody Gardens and decided to go through the Rainforest Pyramid. Kyle loved looking at all of the animals. His favorites were the poison dart frogs and the birds. He also enjoyed seeing all of the different plants and flowers, but was delighted especially with all of the waterfalls.
The picture above shows a two-toed sloth. He was sleeping until we all gathered around to gawk at the fact that he was only about 2 feet away from us.
So, where is Katie during all of this? She went on a road trip with Nana and PopPop to move Papa back to Fredericksburg where he will be living in a retirement home near his church. He's happy to be going back to see his friends and to have his dog back. Katie spent the day with her cousins. She went to a rehearsal for Meredith's dance recital. But I think the biggest news of the day was the appearance of a North American porcupine eating in the oak tree over the creek behind my sister's house. I guess an "in the wild" animal like that beats our picture of the captured sloth. They tried to get a picture of it, but unfortunately they were unsuccessful. I do however have these photos that my sister emailed to me:
