Turning Appelita

Wondering what Appelita is aren't you?

Tonight Katie asked if we could play Guitar Hero together for a while. Then she continues on and said, "I want to play 'Turning Appelita, turning Appelita, I think so!' Most of you will recognize it now...but for those who don't, the song goes:

"I'm turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so"
Turning Japanese by The Vapors

Inside I cracked up.

For some unknown reason I decided to ditch the pacifier today. I think it's because Derek is gone and in my head it was better for only one of us to suffer through the night than for both of us to suffer. I tried cutting the tip off of one of them. As he screamed and screamed and screamed, I sent Katie up there to do my dirty work. I told her to give him the one with the tip cut off. I know, terrible mom. She came back down and said, "at first he was really happy and then he just got mad." Um, yes, I can hear that. After 10 minutes more of screaming, I went up there to rock him. Usually I rock him a 1/2 to one song and he's ready to lay in his bed and he goes right to sleep. So as I am talking to him, he is sobbing and he looks at me and says, "Mommy, I broke my paci-fi-er." Poor little guy thought he had broken the tip off! I rocked him a few more songs and laid him down, patted his back and then started to leave. I have never been one to wait until he's asleep and leave (I made that mistake with Katie and I refuse to do that with him!) I closed the door and he started wailing again. I caved, found one under the bed and gave it to him. I am weak. Sorry Derek. The good news is, he fell right to sleep. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow. We'll see.

Poor little guy. Why are paci's such an addiction?? Keep me posted on what works. i will need it in the future. I would have caved too! Hang in there!

I feel your pain. I did the cut the tip off thing for Patrick too - he was so mad, he would suck on them for a second and then throw them down on the ground and scream. Not a fun thing!!! It was a few weeks before we got back to a regular sleeping pattern (I have the same routine - rock for one song, or he tells me to "sit down, Mommy!" and I put him in his bed and sit for one song, then walk out). You'll get through it!

My daughter chewed the ends off hers and STILL sucked on them like crazy. One night, the "binky fairy" came...Megan left the binky on the table and when she woke up, there was little note and a baggie of goodies for her. Of course- the binky fairy just put the gross, chewed up binkies into my drawer in case she wouldn't sleep, but she went cold turkey. Don't know if a binky fairy would work for a boy, but maybe a binky dinosaur or somethng he likes. Good luck!

I like the binky fairy/dino idea. Try that one! I have only gotten him to sleep once with out a paci at my house. I told him to find his paci and he said, "Its gone. I can't find it." I said, "Well we'll just have to sleep without it this time." It may not be that simple if he is going down for the night!
